AND Digital is delighted to be sponsoring HAC100 for the first time!

As challenge setters, we wanted to explore a topic we encounter on a daily basis; the pain of commuting into Manchester (or indeed anywhere in the North!). It has been headline news for… well, ages. At AND Digital we even have a Slack channel dedicated to sharing our awful experiences with Northern Rail!

Transport in the north of England is seriously rubbish. Cancellations, capricious timetable changes, RMT strikes – you name it! Getting from A to B is a mission for many, causing frustration, stress and anger. Which leads us to our challenge:

Challenge: Can clever tech help turn passenger misery into passenger delight?

As passengers there’s not a great deal we can do about the disruptions, the best that we can do is laugh in the face of adversity and bring an element of fun to the situation. That’s why we want you to take the stress out of the lives of commuters – be that through social media, gamification or something else entirely. We’re looking for creative use of the readily available open transport data out there.

We’d also love to see the embodiment of our values in your team and solutions:

Wonder

Challenge yourself to go further. Be daring! Ask “what if?” and “why not?”. Most importantly – have fun doing it!

Share

We want to see you work collaboratively, as one cohesive unit. Remember to bring passion to your work and see what you can learn from each other.

Delight

We’re all about exceeding expectations! Delight us and leave us wanting more of what you have to offer.

The prizes

As a reward for your efforts, each member of the winning team will be awarded a pair of state-of-the-art wireless headphones!

Happy hacking!
